Description and Purpose
The Chimney Rain Cap with Spark Arrestor is a specialized chimney top element that performs a dual function: protecting the channel from precipitation and preventing hot particles (sparks) from flying out.
This is a mandatory element for bathhouses, saunas, houses with roofs made of combustible materials (bitumen shingles, thatch, ondulin), or if there are tall trees growing near the house.
Working Principle
- Spark extinguishing: Flue gases hit the cap lid, change direction, and pass through a fine wire mesh. Upon contact with the metal, sparks break up and cool down without leaving the pipe limits.
- Fauna protection: The mesh serves as a reliable physical barrier for birds and small animals, preventing them from building nests inside the chimney.

Maintenance and Usage
Installing a mesh creates additional resistance to smoke outflow. To avoid draft problems, follow these rules:
- Fuel: It is strictly not recommended to use wet wood or resinous wood species (spruce, pine). Resin and soot clog the mesh cells very quickly.
- Cleaning: The mesh must be checked and cleaned at least 1-2 times a season. A clogged mesh can cause smoke to back up into the house.
- Alternative: If you have a non-combustible roof and no special fire safety requirements, choose a standard rain cap without mesh for better draft.
