Roof Hatches for Safe and Convenient Roof Access
A roof access hatch (roof hatch) is a structure designed to provide safe and convenient access to the roof for roof maintenance: inspection, repairs, and the cleaning of chimneys and ventilation ducts. Glazed models additionally serve as a source of natural light in the roof space.
SIA "Akvilon" manufactures roof access hatches in standard sizes as well as to the customer’s individual dimensions. We offer various designs for integration with different types of roof coverings.
Types and applications
Our roof access hatches are designed for installation on pitched and flat roofs with various types of coverings. Depending on the roofing material and the functional requirements, we offer:
- Hatches with a metal flashing plate: Universal models with a flat metal plate (flange) that allows the hatch to be watertightly connected to both metal sheets (profiled sheets, metal tiles, flat metal sheet) and torch-on soft roofing materials. Available in sizes 680×450 mm and 600×800 mm.
- Hatches for standing seam roofs: The hatch body is integrated directly into the plane of the roof sheet (standing seam profile), ensuring a watertight and continuous standing seam covering without the use of a wide metal plate. Size 680×450 mm.
- Glazed hatches: Fitted with a translucent insert, they provide natural daylighting of attic and technical spaces during the day. They combine the functions of roof access and a roof window. Size 680×450 mm.
Design and features
Our hatches are designed with strength, watertightness and durability in mind:
- Rigidity and safety: The body walls are reinforced with profiled stiffening ribs, reducing the risk of deformation and ensuring safe operation.
- Reliable joints: The components are joined by mechanical seaming, without welding. This preserves the protective zinc coating and reduces the risk of corrosion and metal deformation at the joints.
- Reliable handle: A convenient handle made of a 4 mm thick metal strip is fitted to the inside of the cover, ensuring easy opening and long service life under intensive use.
- Water drainage: The oval shape of the hatch promotes the natural run-off of melt and rain water, preventing moisture stagnation around the hatch.
- Natural daylighting (glazed models): The built-in rectangular glazing admits daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting in the attic space.
Materials and finish options
We offer hatches in a range of coatings to ensure compatibility with your roof and the required service life:

| Polyester coating (PE) | Painted to match the roof colour (RR palette, e.g. RR23, RR32, and other available colours). The polymer layer provides additional barrier protection against corrosion and weathering. |
| Polyurethane coating (PUR) | Painted to match the roof colour (RR palette and other available colours). A thicker and more durable layer than PE: increased resistance to mechanical damage, UV radiation and weathering; preferred for aggressive environments and regions with high climatic loads. |
Standard sizes: 680×450 mm and 600×800 mm (for hatches with a metal plate); 680×450 mm (for standing seam and glazed models).
Custom sizes: on request, we will manufacture a hatch to suit your opening.
Certification: Production is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the factory production control (FPC) system (Certificate No. 1805/2011).
The importance of correct installation
Installing a roof access hatch requires precision and strict adherence to the proper method. The opening must be correctly prepared, the body set strictly level and securely fastened. The most critical step is the waterproofing of the junction between the hatch and the roof covering. When installed on a soft roof, the metal plate is fastened to the roof, after which roll roofing material is torch-applied over it, or its edges are concealed under the bitumen shingle elements. Incorrect installation can lead to leaks.
